About
Transform lives through the power of literacy and mentorship with The Barbershop Book Club Program, an exclusive initiative of The Competitive Readers Coalition. Designed specifically for black and brown boys, this innovative program combines reading engagement with culturally relevant mentorship in a welcoming barbershop environment. Each session empowers young readers to discover books that reflect their identities, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. Through our unique approach of "1 Book, 1 Haircut, 1 Barber at a time," participants receive free books to build their home libraries while connecting with positive male role models who inspire excellence. As part of The Competitive Readers Coalition's mission to empower, edify, and encourage excellence in young black boys, this program goes beyond traditional literacy initiatives by fostering self-confidence, cultural awareness, and personal growth in a space where boys feel comfortable and valued. Whether your child is a reluctant reader or an enthusiastic bookworm, our program creates a supportive community that celebrates reading achievements and encourages lifelong learning. Participants will explore diverse literature featuring characters who look like them, engage in meaningful discussions, and develop critical thinking skills. Join us in changing the narrative and empowering the next generation of confident, literate young men who will transform their communities and achieve their dreams.
