Today’s Word: Determination
Determination means the firm decision and strong inner resolve to keep working toward a goal: even when the goal feels difficult.
The word comes from the Latin determinare, meaning “to set limits or boundaries.” It moved through Medieval Latin and Old French before becoming the English word we use today. In other words, determination helps us set a direction, recognize what matters, and keep moving forward.

Why Determination Matters
Determination is the energy behind a young reader who tries a challenging page again. It is the courage to ask for help, practice a new word, and read aloud with growing confidence.
Determination turns small steps into big progress: and when we keep going together, we build stronger communities.
In trusted community spaces, including barbershops, young men and boys can find encouragement, mentorship, and safe opportunities to participate. Through FROM THE BARBERSHOP TO THE BOARDROOM, CRC connects literacy, character, and confidence to everyday experiences. Through Youth Workforce Development and Training, young people also begin preparing to move from the shop to the professional world as capable, thoughtful leaders.
