At CRC, we believe in elevating the lexicon of our community. Each week, we dive deep into a word that defines our identity and our programs. This week, we focus on:
Erudition (noun): Extensive knowledge acquired chiefly from books; profound, scholarly knowledge.
Erudition is the cornerstone of our 8-program family. It’s the difference between simply knowing facts and possessing the wisdom to apply them. When a young man walks into a barbershop in Pinellas County and picks up a book while waiting for his fade, he isn't just passing time: he is pursuing erudition. This pursuit is at the core of our "Youth Workforce Development and Training" initiative, where we emphasize Equipping the Next Generation of Leaders. We are teaching our youth that a sharp mind is the perfect complement to a sharp haircut.
FROM THE BARBERSHOP TO THE BOARDROOM
The vision behind CRC, spearheaded by our founder Antonio Brown, is rooted in the belief that social mobility starts in the spaces where our community feels most at home. The barbershop has always been the "black town square": a place of mentorship, laughter, and real talk. By bringing literacy resources into these trusted community spaces, Antonio Brown and the CRC team are snipping away at illiteracy and the school-to-prison pipeline.

It’s about self-awareness and the realization that the skills learned in the neighborhood: resilience, communication, and strategy: are the same skills required to run a corporation. Expanding the Vision: Financial Literacy and Homeownership
We are thrilled to highlight the 5th pillar of our CRC programming: the Financial Literacy and Homeownership Program, in partnership with Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU). Our theme for this pillar is: “Building Generational Wealth through Literacy and Ownership.”
True empowerment requires a foundation of financial stability. By teaching our scholars and their families the ins and outs of credit, savings, and the path to homeownership, we are ensuring that the erudition they gain leads to tangible assets. We want our youth to not only sit in the boardroom but to own the building. This is how we transform Pinellas County: one family, one home, and one scholar at a time.
