Word of the Day: Eloquence (CRC) | Speak with Power, Lift Your Community

Words can open doors, strengthen confidence, and help young people stand firmly in their truth. For boys and young men ages 1–18, learning to communicate clearly is an empowering step toward leadership, self-awareness, and community connection.

Today’s Word: Eloquence

Eloquence means discourse marked by forceful and persuasive expression. It also describes the quality of speaking or writing in a fluent, powerful, and moving way.

According to Merriam-Webster, eloquence comes from the Latin eloquentia, from eloqui, meaning “to speak out.” It is built from ex- (“out”) and loqui (“to speak”). Its first known use in English dates to the 14th century.

Eloquence is not about using the biggest words in the room. It is about choosing words that express your ideas, feelings, and goals with clarity and conviction.

When a young man learns to speak with clarity and conviction, he can advocate for himself, his family, and his neighborhood, and the community grows stronger.

Eloquence in Action

Imagine a young reader in a St. Petersburg barbershop, opening a book and practicing a new word aloud. With encouragement from trusted adults, that moment can become more than reading practice. It can become preparation for a classroom presentation, a job interview, a boardroom conversation, or a courageous stand for what is right.
