Word of the Day: Integrity (CRC) | The Strength of Being Whole
Every day gives us a chance to become stronger: not just in what we know, but in who we are. For young men and boys, character is a powerful part of success. It helps us make good choices, build trust, and show up with confidence in our families, schools, teams, and communities.
Today’s Word of the Day is integrity.
Definition: What Does “Integrity” Mean?
Integrity(noun) means “firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values: incorruptibility.”
In everyday language, integrity means:
Keeping your word
Doing what is right
Being honest with yourself and others
Staying true to your values
Making good choices even when nobody is watching
Integrity is not about being perfect. It is about being whole: your words, choices, and actions matching up.
Where Does the Word Come From?
The word integrity comes from the Latin integritas, meaning soundness, wholeness, or completeness.
It is also connected to the Latin word integer, meaning whole or complete. The root is often explained through in-, meaning “not,” and tangere, meaning “to touch.” Together, the idea points to something that remains untouched, whole, and undivided.
That is a powerful picture of character. Integrity means not allowing pressure, shortcuts, or outside opinions to break you away from what you know is right.
Why Integrity Matters
Integrity builds trust: and trust opens doors.
When a young man keeps his promise, tells the truth, returns what does not belong to him, or admits when he made a mistake, people notice. Teachers, coaches, family members, mentors, and future employers learn that they can count on him.

A Simple Integrity Action for Today
Try the “Keep It Whole” challenge:
Make one small promise today.
Write it down or say it out loud.
Follow through: even if the promise seems small.
At the end of the day, ask yourself: Did my actions match my words?
Your promise might be:
“I will finish my reading.”
“I will speak respectfully.”
“I will help clean up.”
“I will tell the truth.”
“I will encourage someone instead of tearing them down.”
A parent, mentor, barber, teacher, or older brother can join the challenge too. Talk about what made it easy or difficult to follow through. These conversations turn ordinary moments into meaningful lessons.

Integrity is strength you carry on the inside.
You do not need a spotlight to practice it. You do not need applause. Every time your choices line up with your values, you are building trust, confidence, and character.
