Word of the Day: Foresight (CRC) | See Ahead, Build What's Next
FORESIGHT
Foresight means thinking ahead so you can make wise choices today.
Merriam-Webster defines foresight as “an act or the power of foreseeing : prescience; provident care : prudence; the ability to see what will or might happen in the future.” The word comes from Middle English forsight, formed from fore- + sight, with its first known use in the 14th century. Reference: Merriam-Webster
Foresight supports success and builds community because it helps us plan ahead, make wise choices, and protect and lift the people around us.
Try This Today
Before you make one important choice, pause and ask:
“What could happen next, and how can I choose a better path?”
Write down one goal for school, home, or your future. Then choose one small action that moves you closer to it.
Caregiver Prompt
Ask your young reader:
“What is one decision you can make today that your future self will appreciate?”
Listen closely, encourage their ideas, and help them connect today’s choices to tomorrow’s opportunities.
Foresight in Our Community
CRC believes literacy is more than reading words on a page. It is also learning how to think critically, understand possibilities, and make empowered decisions.
Through FROM THE BARBERSHOP TO THE BOARDROOM and CRC’s 8-program family, literacy experiences reach young men and boys in barbershops and other trusted community spaces across St. Petersburg and Pinellas County. The Youth Workforce Development and Training program supports this same vision by helping youth transition from the shop to the professional world, equipping the next generation of leaders.
When young people can see ahead, they can build what comes next.
