Parents and Readers

Our program turns a familiar moment—a haircut—into a confidence-building reading experience. While getting a haircut, children are invited to read aloud to a trained barber or stylist who listens, encourages, and celebrates their progress. There’s no pressure, no grades, and no tests. Just books, conversation, and support in a space families already trust.

How It Works

This experience helps children build reading confidence, feel proud of their voice, and begin to see themselves as readers, all while leaving with a fresh cut and a new book to take home.

Choose a Participating Barbershop

Once registered, you’ll select a participating barber where your child will take part in the program. These barbers are trained reading mentors who understand how to encourage young readers in a relaxed, supportive way.

Read During the Haircut

During the haircut, your child reads aloud from a book while the barber listens, offers encouragement, and creates space for conversation. Reading can happen at the child’s pace, and mistakes are treated as part of learning—not something to fear.

After the visit, your child keeps their book to continue reading at home. Over time, these visits help build stronger reading habits, growing confidence, and a personal connection to books.
