When we talk about mastering your environment, we are talking about Erudition. You might hear a word like that and think it belongs in a dusty library or a gated university, but Professor Antonio is here to show you that erudition belongs right here, in the hands of our young leaders.

Definition: Extensive knowledge acquired chiefly from books; profound, scholarly knowledge.
Etymology: This word traces back to the Latin erudire, which literally means "to bring out of the rough." Think about that for a second. It’s like a fresh fade: taking something raw and refining it until it shines.

At The Competitive Readers Coalition, we understand that literacy is the cornerstone of character. This is why our flagship program, FROM THE BARBERSHOP TO THE BOARDROOM, focuses on meeting our young men where they are. By bringing high-level academic concepts into trusted community spaces, we remove the barriers to entry.
We see the statistics: the school-to-prison pipeline is a reality that many try to ignore, but we face it head-on with a book in one hand and a plan in the other. We are transforming the narrative. Instead of being "at-risk," our youth are "at-promise."
Through our Youth Workforce Development and Training program, we are focusing on "Equipping the Next Generation of Leaders." We aren't just looking for jobs; we are looking for careers. We are teaching our young men how to carry themselves, how to speak with authority, and how to use their erudition to navigate professional worlds that were once closed to them.
Building Generational Wealth through Literacy and Ownership
One of the most exciting expansions at CRC is our 5th pillar: the Financial Literacy and Homeownership Program, in partnership with Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU). We know that literacy is the first step, but the ultimate goal is “Building Generational Wealth through Literacy and Ownership.”
